How to partition Thinkpad T30 and install Windows XP Pro?

Hello there, I have an IBM Thinkpad T30 which is installed withWindows Vista operating system. The laptop is giving some problems while working and hence I want to install Windows Xp on the thinkpad. Therefore I want How to partition Thinkpad T30 and install Windows XP Pro on it. Any suggestions/solutions are more than welcome.

As you want to install the Windows Xp on the laptop, insert theinstallation disk of Windows operating system and boot the system from the installation disk. Select install a fresh copy of Windows installation option and let the procedure complete. Before starting the installation process, take back up of the necessary data as you have to format the drive.

Hey thanks for replying to the post. As suggested I inserted the Windows installation disk on the computer and tried to boot the system from the installation disk but the system did not boot from the disk. Instead it gave a disk boot failure error message. Why am I getting this error? Is there any other procedure to install Windows XP on Windows Vista laptop? Please help.

The boot disk failure message indicates that the installation disk which you are using is faulty due to which the system is not booting from the installation disk. Try using some other installation disk to install the operating system and see if the same error is encountered. Changing the installation disk will solve the problem hopefully.

Have you disabled the Native sata support of the hard drive? If not then it could be the reason why you are not able to boot the system from the installation disk. Inorder to boot the system from the installation disk, you will have to disable the Native Sata support or the hard drive. While booting the system, press the F10 button to go BIOS setup and go to Advanced Peripherals section. Disable the Native Sata support and save the settings. Reboot the system and boot the system from the installation disk.

Yes the problem was solved after disabling the native sata support of the HDD from the BIOS. After disabling the native sata support, I was able to install Windows XP operating system on the computer without any problems. The information provided was really very helpful. Thanks in advance.

Sony Laptop Hard Drive Replacement

Laptop Buying Guide: Portable Computing Made Easy

Does portable computing sound like the thing for you? More and more home users are joining the legions of business people that find laptops to be a viable alternative to bulky desktop workstations. In fact, some laptops are designed to be a desktop replacement. Before you plunk down that credit card, though, you’ll need to find out what will work best for your needs.

Home Users:

The typical home laptop user needs a laptop that offers a variety of different features and is not overly concerned with portability. Even the largest, bulkiest laptop is far more portable than other computing solutions. The best option for a home user is a midsize laptop or a desktop replacement model. These are bulkier solutions, though they offer the widest range of options and are usually the most affordable. Remember, as the size of the laptop decreases, the cost of the laptop increases. Also remember that notebooks are the same as laptops. The industry terminology has just changed over time, but you can shop using either search term.

Business Users:

Business users usually demand the utmost in portability, unless the laptop will be only for limited office use and nothing more. For the on-the-go businessperson, a thin and light model is the best option. These are smaller and lighter than other computing options, though they have smaller viewable space. In addition, the keyboards are smaller and the capabilities are somewhat lessened. Ultraportable devices are incredibly slim and small, though they have even more reduced power and features. For frequent drivers or air travelers, these are excellent options. Toshiba Laptops have been a preference for many business users because of the combination of price, features and dependability.

Power Users:

Power users can find a range of options to fit their needs. For instance, many thin and light combinations have more than ample power to keep you going strong, as well as other features that can make them attractive options. For those in need of powerful graphic capabilities, a desktop replacement option is still going to be the best deal.

What You Want:

Regardless of the actual style you purchase, there are a few items that you’ll need to make sure that you get in the laptop. For instance, you need a minimum amount of RAM, as well as a minimum processor speed and hard drive capacity. Remember, too, that the more you have of any of the items, the higher your end price will be.

RAM: Your laptop should have a minimum of at least 1 GB of DDR2 RAM, though 3 GB models are available and offer better performance. At least 2 GB RAM is suggested for laptops with Windows Vista.

CPU: A model with an Intel Core 2 Duo processor is the best option on the market, though a Quad Core is an even better choice if you can foot the bill. 2 GHz is a good processor.

Hard Drive: A minimum of 120 GB is needed for your hard drive, though the more the merrier, especially if you save a lot of videos, movies and large digital photos. Models with 250 GB are available for a little more cash.

Budget Buying Concerns:

If you’re looking for a laptop on a budget, you can find quite an array of options available. The key is to find a reliable brand, as well as the right features in the computer, and not any more features than you need. Buying reconditioned models can seem attractive and can be a good idea in some ideas, though buying new is always the better choice with laptops.

Gamers:

Unlike older laptops, gamers can make good use of today’s laptops. In fact, many companies are manufacturing and marketing models specifically to this market segment – Sony Laptopsare one such example. Combining high end on board graphics card, state of the art sound systems and large (17″) screen sizes, these are a great option for the gamer on the go, or one without the space to dedicate to a bulky desktop computer.

Businesses:

Many businesses are ditching their desktops and providing laptops for in office use for their employees. For these businesses, desktop replacement models offer the best options. These provide the same power and performance as a desktop model might, but they also provide portability. However, they are far too heavy and bulky for regular travel.

Put in a hard drive, computer won’t boot from discs?

I recently acquired a Sony Vaio PCG-7F1L laptop that needed a replacement hard drive. I put a new hard drive in it, and it immediately comes up to a screen that tells me I have new hardware and that I need a Windows installation disc for it to work. The hard drive has windows 7 on it, so I place my windows 7 installation disc in and then repower it on and still get the same message. I’ve also tried it with a Windows 7 repair disc. So far as I can tell, the CD drive works. Any ideas what could be causing it? Its an older laptop (2005) and no longer under warranty. I can try and provide any additional info if I can. Thanks in advance! :)

You need to go into the computers BIOS and change its boot prioity to the CD drive first. At the moment, its looking for the boot info on the hard drive, which of course there isn’t any and it is ignoring the disc drive.

Turn on your laptop, where it says SONY hit whatever button it says to load into the BIOS. Its usually either F1-F12 or DEL. You will now be presented with a screen which has all sorts of configurations and such. Go over to the ‘BOOT’ tab and then you’ll see the order your computer boots devices so it could be like mine:

1. HDD
2. DVD
3. PCI
4. (DISABLED)

In this case you need to swap the HDD and DVD (CD) around.

Once you’ve done that, Click Save and Exit and then hopefully you’ll be in Windows 7 heaven :D

Watch Satellite TV on PC ?

Want to watch satellite TV but torn between so many choices like cable and broadcast TV? I reminisced about the good old days when things were much simpler. During our childhood years, technology was pretty rudimentary. Basic was the word. That was the time when everything in the world was painted black and white. There were no such things as colours, high definition or mega pixels. Well, TV entertainment in this era though complicated has definitely made our viewing experience a much better one.

Click for Start enjoying your favourite TV directly on your PC

As I said, folks can now watch satellite TV, cable TV and normal local TV broadcasts. Technology has even recently married satellite TV with PC as the techies are watching satellite TV on their laptops and desktops. Just what is so attractive that people needs to watch satellite TV? On the other hand, you may be curious to know what is keeping people away from it.

What’s so great about watching satellite TV?

1. Multi-channel Worldwide Selection

Anyone can turn on their TV sets and start to watch satellite TV from worldwide channels. Whether it is educational programs for kids, scientific documentaries, sports news, current affairs, soap operas, movies or music videos, your satellite TV can find them. The power of satellite TV lies in its ability to search and explore the skies for broadcast channels.

2. Digital TV Quality

Satellite TV has gone the route of digital broadcasting. This means that with improved compression technology, you can watch more channels and enjoy better quality TV. Good news for you is that with the exact bandwidth, programs can be repeated several times a day. You have the flexibility to watch satellite TV programs at your own convenience.

3. Mobility and Versatility

Since satellite TV relies on satellite dish system, you can access to TV from any part of the world. This makes it the perfect travel partner when compared with cable or local broadcast networks. There are no cables to run and cross terrain or harsh weather conditions are not an issue. Mount it on a boat, a car or truck and you can still get to watch satellite TV.

If satellite TV is so perfect, why is it that not everyone is watching? Good question. Obviously, there are some shortcomings.

Click for Start enjoying your favourite TV directly on your PC

1. Expensive Satellite TV Setup

The first part of watching satellite TV is to erect your satellite dish, receiver, etc and mount it on the roof. Do-it-yourself satellite TV dish kits are not cheap at all. Each can cost you from hundreds to thousands of dollars. Even satellite systems provided by satellite TV service providers may cost you dearly unless you opt for longer-term subscription contracts where they may throw in free equipment and even the installation can be free of charge.

2. Subscriptions Costs

Did I mention that you have to subscribe for the satellite TV broadcasts? By the way, though it is true that satellite TV has a much wider reach, satellite TV companies typically package their deals and you do not get to watch all your preferred channels if you are not subscribed for them. There are offers for pay-per-view TV as well. You can work around this if you use your own DIY satellite, or watch satellite TV on PC using satellite TV software program.

3. Ugly Satellite Dish

I do not need to tell you how a satellite dish looks like. Depending on how many channels you are preparing to receive, you could need a multi-dish system. Wow, imagine what is that going to do to the overall architectural view of your home? Needless to say, your home would look like a radio station.

Im thinking of becoming an architect for a career. I have some questions?

My guess is that I'll need a computer laptop is very durable and resistant to supervision of construction of the building site, especially the houses. I considered a mark as Panasonic and Motorola. More like something that can withstand rain and drops a table or any other type. Architects make a mobile office in his truck with a Panasonic Toughbook and is mounted inside and work on the site? In addition, the architects went to the homes of clients and discuss details of the overall project and design the house all on a laptop?

Yes to all questions. You should consider a builder instead of a architect. You get to drive a truck with a lot of interesting tools, and meet people on what will be the construction and how progress will. If you go to an architect, you need to get a graduate degree in architecture. It will be two years. As has already passed the deadline for early September, which will be in at least three years before you start. Until then, whatever laptop you buy today will be obsolete, do not buy your Toughbook again.

Features Of Asus Eee Pc

Whilst ultra-portable notebooks often weigh about 2kg, the Eee PC is a featherweight 0.92kg. It is therefore an ultra-mobile machine in the true sense of the expression. The machine is small enough that it can be used in just about any environment. However, this is a full PC, not just a ‘mobile Internet’ device like Nokia’s Internet tablets.

This review aims to provide readers with an in-depth treatment of the Eee, using an actual retail unit, instead of a pre-production model. This is important in a number of respects. Earlier models had different BIOS, which, for example, did not provide full speed USB2.0 ports. Hopefully, having tested an actual retail model, the review should give a true representation of what this machine can actually do.

The 7″ display uses an active matrix LCD which does not fill the top panel. This is because the LCD screen is flanked by a pair of stereo speakers. You might be asking whether a 7″ display is usable. Fortunately, Asus has sensibly limited the resolution to 800×480, so that text is clearly readable. This resolution makes the display far easier to read than other ultra-mobile PCs like the Sony Vaio UX1XN which crams a 1024×600 resolution into a mere 4.5″ display. Ideally, I would have preferred a bigger display with the speakers moved to the base of the machine.

Even though the display is small, it is very impressive, producing a clean and crisp-looking image. Colors are faithfully reproduced and there were no bad pixels. The screen has an anti-glare finish that helps to reduce reflections from overhead lighting, which was helpful when using the Eee on the train. Another noteworthy feature of the display is its extremely wide viewing angle, although I found that this aided nosey train commuters spying on what I was doing, especially as their attention had already been drawn to the minute size of the machine.

The display can be set to 16 different levels of brightness, which is more than enough for whatever environment the machine is being used in, with the exception of very strong sunlight. Both the screen and the chassis are sturdy and do not flex under pressure. The hinges are sturdy and fairly stiff; a sign of solidity. They certainly belie the inexpensive price tag.

Ultra-small, ultra-lightweight computers have previously carried a huge premium, making them very much a niche market for those individuals willing to spend outrageous amounts of money. Not only does the Eee PC massively undercut its Ultra Mobile PC competition, it even retails for less than a budget laptop.

Of course this would mean little if the Asus device had any major shortcomings. It doesn’t. The slick interface can be mastered in a few minutes by any novice PC user, the hardware is more than capable of doing its job, and everything just works out of the box. At the same time, the appliance can be turned into a full computer for computer enthusiasts who enjoy tinkering under the bonnet.
The Eee PC may be targeted at children and students, but it should also entice anyone needing a compact, low cost, yet fully functional PC. It is featherweight, far easier to use than a Windows machine, starts up three times faster, and costs about a quarter of anything in its weight class.

I therefore give the Asus Eee PC my highest recommendation. There’s so much to like about this remarkably versatile computer. In fact, I like it so much I bought a second one!

EeePC 701 Specification:

- Display 7″
