Review Of Acer Ferrari 4005 WLMi Portable Computer

Leveraging this partnership, Acer can introduce exclusive, racing inspired notebooks that are elegant, cutting-edge, and effective, much like the actual Ferrari automobile. The new Acer Ferrari 4000 revamps the previous generation Acer Ferrari models by pumping more horsepower and sporting a brand new design.

The Acer Ferrari is made to impress, particularly with its smooth looks and powerful components. Like the Acer TravelMate 8100 series, the Ferrari 4000 is composed of Acer’s Folio style. To distinguish the new platform from its predecessors, the 4000 retains its personal racing-inspired theme composed of an elegant thin-and-light carbon fiber casing in smooth black and Ferrari-red trims. Even the included Bluetooth mouse matches the system. Under the hood, the Acer Ferrari 4000 (model 4005 WLMi) sports AMD’s new Turion 64 mobile processor, running at a couple of.0GHz on ATI’s Radeon Xpress 200M chipset. Other prominent functions include a luminous 15.4-inch widescreen LCD with razor sharp 1680 x 1050 native resolution, a brand new modular slot-loading dual layer DVD burner, 100GB difficult drive, and 1GB RAM. This attractive package also combines an array of other bells and whistles.

Avid gamers will be satisfied with the performance from the mid-range ATI MOBILITY RADEON X700 graphics with 128MB DDR VRAM. Although the Ferrari 4000 possesses some characteristics of a desktop alternative, it measures only 1.2 inches thin and weighs 6.3 pounds with its 8-cell battery. Whilst not the most ideal personal computer for intensive travel, it is still a well-balanced machine suited for moderate portability and is really more portable than other notebooks within the exact same class.

At 6.three pounds with the 8-cell battery, the Ferrari is not intended to accompany you wherever you go, but is rather suited for occasional travel. Unlike the Fujitsu N3510, which weighs a pound more and is .4-inches thicker, the Ferrari is really a well-balanced machine that’s feasible for travel whilst providing a spacious viewing area. The idea of being able to watch a DVD movie on such a large display anywhere I go makes it much more appealing to obtain and about, where usually laptops with a screen of this caliber are made to be used on the desk and nowhere else.

Acer and Ferrari could assemble an aesthetically impressive notebook that illustrates originality and style. The new Ferrari 4000 uses the exact same chassis since the Travelmate 8100 series and is composed of the exact same Folio design, but instead possesses its personal racing-inspired theme. Getting off the all Ferrari red design discovered in the previous generation Ferrari models, the revamped Ferrari 4000 arrives in a sleek black finish but keeps the Ferrari’s ‘Rosso Corsa’ red trim on the side panels and about the edge of the top lid. Not only is the carbon fiber lid lighter and stronger than other materials, it also gives off a distinctive appear with the black and grey checkered shades.

The two tone color scheme keeps it smooth and refined, with the interior constructed from polycarbonate plastic wrapping close to from the keyboard region to the bottom chassis. The edges are curvaceous and also the rubberized area around the palm rest and keyboard area is smooth, resembling the texture of a racing tire – it’s also one of the most comfortable textures my palms have ever rested on. In addition, the rubber-like texture serves to insulate heat generated from the internal elements.

With respect to usage, the ‘Acer FineTouch’ computer keyboard offers decent key travel distance and excellent response. You will see from the picture the computer keyboard employs a five-degree curve for a more ergonomic placement, which I find neither an advantage nor disadvantage when compared to straight-laced arrangement keyboards. Some users may need to be accustomed to this unusual layout while others will pick it up immediately. On that note, I can type quickly, accurately, and comfortably with this computer keyboard. You may think here is the exact same computer keyboard found on the Acer TravelMate 8100 series, but in fact it feels slightly various when it comes to its depression levels and noise generation.

ASUS U30JC-A1 13.3-Inch Laptop (Silver)

The NotebookReview.com gives the ASUS U30Jc its coveted

. See what they had to say about it: “Overall the
ASUS U30Jc-A1
is a solid sub-$1000 notebook with good performance,
very good battery life
, and an appealing design aesthetic….
the U30Jc is easily one of my favorites
…”

The popular HotHardware.com awards ASUS U30Jc its prestigious
Editor’s Choice Award
. See what they had to say about it: “ASUS really executed well on the U30Jc, from the
gorgeous design
… not to mention
the power-saving and intelligent NVIDIA Optimus
solution.
A Five-star machine at a reasonable price
…”

To set the context: I have a two year old Dell desktop, a 4 year old Dell Latitude D400 (12″ screen with INtel Pentium M), and a 1 year old Dell Mini 9″ (Intel Atom). Like many, I no longer use my desktop, and the D400 was getting a bit long in the tooth. The Mini I found useful for taking on travel but was agonizingly slow for daily use with a very cramped keyboard. Even the D400 choked on multiple websites on occasion and multitasking was a chore. Of course, neither laptop had discrete graphics.

This new laptop has changed everything. To be fair, I would probably be raving about the better experience on any current laptop compared to the older Latitude. However, I really do think the U30JC, even though it’s under $1000, is on the cutting edge. It sports Intel’s new Core i3, the successor to the Core 2 Duos (still around at good deals), and Nvidia discrete graphics. Critically, Nvidia’s Optimus allows for seamless switching to the integrated graphics when power saving is an issue.

I have not really taxed the computer yet and I will update the review down the road with thoughts on more heavy duty performance and battery life issues. But I imagine a number of folks are considering this model and would find initial thoughts helpful.

1) The build quality is very nice. The brushed metallic exterior and lack of plastic except on the screen bezel minimizes fingerprints. Very solid and looks great.

2) I prefer matte screens but the glossy screen in regular indoor conditions is great. I can see this be annoying in very bright light, however. Definition and video quality are leagues better than what I’m used to or have seen before in sub-$1000 laptops.

3) Performance is awesome on my limited trials. Hulu, youtube, multiple websites, quicken, windows media player. Everything pops up so quickly and the platform has no issue with lots and lots of multitasking. No stuttering, no lagging.

4) I really like the programmability and adjustability of everything. For example, maybe this is a Win 7 feature, but I really like the ability to assign “hibernate” to the power button.

5) This is definitely not a thin and light ultraportable. It’s a bit heavier than my D400 and bulkier because of the bigger screen. I am still going to travel on work with the Dell Mini. It would be OK for students but I think it’s too big (and performance overkill anyway) for most business travelers. I am viewing this as a desktop replacement and because I’m not going to be using this as my primary movie viewer or gaming platform, I really think 13″ is where I want to be at.

6) Battery life seems to be excellent. I have not put a video on endless loop to max out the battery (and you can read technical reviews that are now popping up). HOwever, just having the laptop idling and using it periodically throughout the day, it was lasting a looong time.

7) I am not a huge fan of the chiclet keyboard and prefer the regular keyboards with more travel and contours. However, I can see that this would be easier to clean and it’s not a bad typing experience. I don’t find the layout strange in any way.

I really hate touchpads (one reason why I stuck with Dell and its pointing stick). I found this touchpad hard to use and not uniformly sensitive, especially on the left side. This could be a slightly fiddly unit or could be my lack of experience. In any event, I am going to use a mouse. (Lack of integrated bluetooth on this laptop is a demerit).

9) very quiet, didn’t run very hot in my limited testing.

I found the whole Asus package to be stripped down and bare bones, which I actually liked. I didn’t think there was a ton of bloatware compared to other companies. The box was very small and spartan and there is no manual (it’s on the desktop). Some of the built-in Asus utilities are not fully explained. Most of the Intel/Nvidia and random stickers come off easily to provide a very clean, elegant look.

Overall, I believe now (and will update with additional thoughts) that this is a spectacular value. Yes, there are things that I would like changed, but I am very happy with the machine standing alone and then compared to the price point, it’s awesome.

Update: After a few weeks of usage, I definitely affirm my initial positive review. This went on a coast to coast business trip. Battery life was phenomenal (I still haven’t fully drained but it was lasting for hours off the cord when just doing basic businessy-web stuff). Traveled very well and was not as heavy to lug around as I expected. (although it is slightly heavier than it appears).

One of my keys popped out (my fault) and so I had my first encounter with Asus support. The support was fine and they are shipping me a new keyboard under warranty. So I am satisfied with my limited interaction with Asus US support. Speaking of the keyboard, I still am not in love with it. The chiclets slightly squeak sometimes and the limited travel does take some getting used to. But I can imagine some folks would prefer this kind of layout (very similar to Macbook).

Having the optical drive definitely came in handy for installing some software.

Finally, the glossy screen has turned out to be less annoying than I anticipated. Almost all of my usage has been indoors and not in bright sunlight. I would not recommend writing a novel in a sunny coffee shop, however.

The balance of this (performance, value, battery) is really perfect for me.

12 Coolest iPad Cases for your iPad

12 Coolest iPad Cases for your iPad – www.g-batteryshop.com

Etch A Sketch iPad Case

Is your iPad a toy? You betcha! Make it even more fun with a clever case that makes it look like the Etch A Sketch you used as a child. Oh, yeah, it also protects your iPad from scratches and dings.

iMaxi

If you were wondering which is the latest and coolest iPad case, you don’t need to look too far. There have been several designers already trying to create cases which exemplify the term geek-chic. The Apple iPad has inspired designers to create the iMaxi, which is a cool quilted cotton sleeve. Designer Hiphandmaids conceived the idea of an iMaxi based on personal hygiene napkins. If you have an iPad, and would like to protect it from motherboard leaks and other “accidents” you could go and get yourself this iMaxi. It just makes me think what people might think when you open your iPad. That you had been keeping your iPad in your sanitary pad? I am sure not many people would want to touch your gadgets or even you for that matter! If you do not mind a few giggles and a few disgusted looks, you could go ahead and get yourself the iMaxi.

Book Case

The BookBook has already been released for the MacBook, but now it’s making its way to the iPad to make sure that it stays safe as well. The BookBook converts your modern looking gadgets into antique books. It’s the perfect case for the gadget lover that still loves the smell and look of antique books. Plus, it might work as a theft deterrent since it looks like nothing more than a simple hardcover book. The cover zips up to keep the iPad inside, plus there are plenty of things inside of the book to make sure that your iPad doesn’t shift around. Thanks to the hardcover case, this also doubles as a handy little stand. The case may be mildly bulky, but at least it does double duty. Plus you’ll probably very rarely come across anyone with a case quite like this one. There are two different color options for the case, both of which are pictured above.

iPad Waterproof Case

The iPad being the newest obsession for many, it will sure need all of the random accessories that the rest of the Apple products have received. Those of you that like to be around a whole lot of water might want to consider picking up this case. It’ll make sure you have full use of your iPad, but it will also make sure that it stays completely dry. The case even has an incredibly attractive strap that can be used to make the iPad hang from your neck. I’m sure you’ll pick up even potential partners if you hang this around your neck while you’re wearing a bathing suit at your local pool.

Steampunk iPad

Weighing in at just under 14 pounds and reinforced with solid brass, it’s the industrial strength iPad.

RibCage iPad case

This alien looking case from Switch Easy, offers the iPad owner the chance to keep their precious device in tip top condition, rather than leaving it lying around or putting it down onto surfaces where it is likely to get scratched. The case is made from a faux leather type material with increased protection for the screen; however, the downside is that you have to keep taking the iPad out of the case to use it!

Swarovski iPad Case

DSstyles is responsible for the creation of the iPad Swarovski case, an entire new series crystallized product from DS. Crystals. The crystallized iPad case adds more than 6000 Swarovski crystals to your latest gadget. This is the eighth product series from DS. Crystals. DS. Crystals is creating new iPad cases after their remarkable success for their Swarovski iPhone case series. The new iPad case series is characterized by its extreme large crystallized surface and shiny crystals effects. The production time for the new iPad case is 6 times more than the iPhone case as it carries more than 6000 Swarovski crystals. The use of different size crystals becomes more challenging as the surface of the iPad is much larger.

Retro TV iPad Case

A love for innovative designs and the employing of old and outdated home appliances, are the factors inspiring Jonas Damon’s great design. The TV iPad case. The case is made with wood. However, no single thing used for making this wooden case was purchased. Rather, the materials to build it were found lying around in the nooks and crannies of his apartment. The style of the case resembles that of an old-school cathode-ray television which adds a charming retro touch to the whole thing. The overall look of the case is completed with his use of the screensaver depicting an 50′s grainy television snow. It’s a truly brilliant tribute to the TV days of yesteryear.

Bacon iPad case

Bacon and Apple products go together like peas and carrots. Or lamb and tuna fish. They’re both the perfect byproducts of their respective categories. Pimp your iPad with pork with the custom made Bacon iPad case. It might not be actual bacon, but its realistic design is enough to make you wish you had a side of eggs to go with your balanced breakfast of pork and tablet. Created by Etsy merchant Antjes, for about $60 you can have your very own Bacon iPad Case. The perfect greasy side dish to match the high fiber intake of your Apple tablet.

iArm

Are you the life of the company, as well as the resident joker? Well, if you happen to own an iPad or tablet device, then you might be interested to check out what the iArm could do for you. Potentially being one of the more interesting Apple accessories out there, this forearm mount will “empower” you with an additional arm. Capable of attaching to iPads, tablet PCs, eReaders, cell phones, and others, the iArm tips the scales at a mere 4.5 lbs. and is fully adjustable, The iArm itself will let you tote your favorite device with you, where the optional “multi-mount” allows you to secure up to three more items simultaneously.

The only problem is that the iArm is a fake product, depicted on a Prank Pack, on a prank gift box that are used to fool a gift recipient into thinking they just got the stupidest gift ever – until they open the prank box and see their real gift.

Wooden iPad Case

Want to protect your fresh iPad in an eco-friendly way? No doubt, an iPad wooden case is the obvious choice such as the Vers iPad case.

Domo Kun iPad Case

Fancy something a little different to protect your iPad with? Then check out this fun Domo Kun Case. This little critter is sure to keep your iPad snug with its 2 layers of cozy felt. All features such as his pearly whites and his beady eyes are machine sewn. The inside is lined with brown felt and there are no visible seams, so your i-gadget will glide in nicely.

Laptop with glowing pear on the back?

HELP! I don’t think it’s Apple but on the back it has a glowing Pear with a bite out of it. I’ve tried to Google it and everything. I need to know who makes this laptop.

if you saw this laptop in zoey 101… its non existent. the only reason its a pear because if zoey 101 used apple computers but tried to make it not a apple computer. Like mythbuster using coke cans, they color it and paint “SODA”… its to censor the company to prevent advertisement.

Is it possible to repair a laptop motherboard?

i am on holiday in thailand and took with me a packard bell laptop that has been giving me problems with the screen going black after 10 _ 30 minutes………..after researching before i came i think its probably a motherboard problem which in uk would condemn it to the scrap bin but in thailand the shop says it can repair the motherboard for 70 quid…………is it possible to repair a motherboard in a laptop ?

Yes it can be done – the only reason in the UK repairs of that sort are not bothered with is because we in the UK live in a throw-away society. In Thailand there are computer ‘whizz-kids’ as there are anywhere else – its only a question of ‘do you take a chance’ on what the local repair person has said for £70. They knowing your a holidaymaker and will be returning home soon and if the repair should fail you won’t be bringing it back..!!

If I took that the chance – on collection I wouldn’t hand any money over until i had seen the L-Top working in the shop for at least an hour – as you have said it cuts out after 10-30 mins: – then at least if it still is working after that time the repair might have done some good – if its still the same as before then ‘don’t hand over any money’ as the repair has not been done – make that payment point ‘quite clear’ to the repair person at the very start.!!!

You can also keep stack of hard copies of some important documents like insurance, bills, mortgage papers etc, instead of relying completely on technology.
