Sony Laptop Inverter Problem

Sony Vaio PCG-Z505R Troubleshooting

When using a Sony Vaio PCG-Z505R laptop, monitor malfunctions, keyboard failures and power issues can all bring an abrupt stop to your productivity. These issues in the Sony Vaio PCG-Z505R are most often caused by incorrect or loose cable connections, deteriorated batteries or incorrect brightness settings. You can troubleshoot for and correct these issues in your own home, even if you are an average consumer lacking any computer-repair background. The only tool needed is a Phillips-head screwdriver.

Instructions

1.Check the power adapter on the Sony Vaio PCG-Z505R if there appears to be a lack of power to the machine. This adapter needs to be securely plugged into the back of the laptop. Additionally, it must not have come loose from the wall socket or surge protector outlet it is plugged into.

2.Check the keyboard ribbon cable if the keyboard has stopped functioning properly. This is often the cause behind keyboard malfunction. Remove the screws on the bottom of the unit that are marked with a small keyboard icon. Use a Phillips-head screwdriver.

3.Consider battery vgp-bpl9 replacement if power problems continue after ensuring the adapter is in place. Batteries last for roughly 1,000 charges before they deteriorate. Power the machine off and disconnect the power adapter. Insert a new test battery vgp-bps13 in the Vaio by flipping the unit over and activating the sliding battery-release mechanism, which is located at the top of the underside of the unit. This mechanism will pop out the old vgp-bps9abattery and allow you to insert a new one for testing.

4.Check the monitor brightness settings on the Sony Vaio PCG-Z505R if the display appears dark or blank. The brightness settings may simply have been turned all the way down, resulting in a display that only appears to be malfunctioning. Brightness adjustment keys can be found at the top of the Vaio’s keyboard.

5.Flip the Sony Vaio PCG-Z505R back over and jostle the now loose keyboard free from the housing. You will see the keyboard ribbon cable running from the bottom of the Vaio keyboard down to the base of the laptop, where it is supposed to connect to a socket. Reconnect this cable if necessary. Lift one edge of this socket gently up and slide the cable back in, then push firmly down on the keyboard socket to lock it back in place.

6.Locate the inverter cable. This is the black cable that runs along the bottom center of the exposed display and which connects to the inverter board beneath it via a connector socket just off to the side. If the inverter cable is loose, lift up on one edge of the socket, slide the cable back in, then press down to lock the socket into position. This will restore the monitor’s backlight.

7.Ensure the monitor’s inverter cable has not become disconnected if the screen’s backlight appears to have failed and remains dark after attempting brightness adjustments. Notice the plastic seals along the surface of the perimeter of the display. This plastic perimeter is also known as the “bezel,” and these seals on the bezel conceal screws. Pry off the seals with your fingers and remove the screws with your screwdriver.

8.Pry under one edge of the bezel gently to pop it up. Work around the perimeter of the loose bezel with your fingertips to disengage it and remove it entirely.

Wimax is a more evolved wireless connection. It too is based on cellular infrastructure, so it can be used in a mobile capacity just like 3G. That means you can take it with you anywhere in the city-wide coverage area just like how you can take your cell phone all around town. All you’ll need is a USB modem or PC card and a portable computing device such as a laptop. It would be as simple as plugging in your modem to your device. You’d be able to use the internet at your favorite restaurant, in your backyard, at your friend’s place, and even in a moving vehicle. Try using your cable or DSL connection in those capacities.

Most people have reservations about this new service because it is wireless. They tend to think that it will suffer from unreliable performance and slow transfer rates. But thanks to the evolution of technology, those are concerns that you won’t have to worry about any longer. Wimax is mature and it will give you renewed faith in wireless technology. It may even go so far as to question your faith in wires because it will outperform many standard installations of cable and DSL.

The only potential worry arises from the fact that there is a coverage area. Your service would be perfectly fine within your city, but if you should happen to stray too far away you could end up losing your signal. Fortunately, many plans out there allow your equipment to switch over to the 3G network in these cases. 3G service will not be nearly as fast but at least you won’t be left in the dark. You’d still be able to do some light browsing and emailing. Wimax coverage is expanding all the time so this will probably not be an issue for long.

i was a little worried when i ordered the acer b/c i had not heard much about it and wasn’t sure if it was going to be too small. now i absolutely love it. a normal size laptop would have been too big for me. i use it for work with windows and the internet. i can throw it in my purse b/c it is small and lightweight. this little guy is great. i got it in white with a 6 cell battery for about $280. i have it for about 8 months and i literally use it every day. yes i did have to buy a cd burner to attach but that was only about $40. this netbook does everything i need and its so portable. i like it better than my previouse full sized hp laptop. very very happy with my acer aspire one.

Great value! lightweight and speedy. No real upgrades though

First off, ill go with the cons, and there arnt that many. 

upgrading the ram is MUCH dissecting, im a technician and i would NOT recommend anyone to upgrade the ram themselves. ALSO there is only 1 ram slot, …so if you had an extra half gig chip of DDR2 notebook ram lying around, you wont be able to put it in to bring this baby up to its “1.5 gig max” 

the Hard drive is connected but practically EMBEDDED into the motherboard,.. and like getting to the ram slot, you will need to take nearly EVERYTHING out of the casing and then flip the motherboard over after disconnecting all the tiny little cables. 

All of this might sound like im bashing it, but in all honesty im not, im just pointing out what to expect if you plan to upgrade the unit. for example…installing a SSHD or..a bigger ram chip. 
(personally i would have preferred a 2gig max, not 1.5) 

ok with that aside ill go into its PROS.. 

this little laptop has a BEAUTIFUL LED display! Very clear and colorful. its also FAST the Intel Atom processor runs great..and just in case your wondering..it can do some 3d Games! my friend uses this to play WORLD OF WARCRAFT..and Fiesta online! (grafx are scaled down of course..but both games are playable) 

the hard drive space at 160 gigs is monstrous!!!! loaded up with 100 DVD quality movies its the perfect thing to keep you busy for a while. 

The keyboard is MUCH better in size than some of the other netbooks i have seen ..and it saddens to say it, because i am a ASUS fanboy…the keyboard is better than the ASUS..easier to type on.
