Dell Laptop Uses A New Cooling Technology With Intel

Dell has announced an ultraportable laptop with a new Intel technology that draws outside air to keep the system quieter and cooler. Dell Vostro V130 is one of the first laptops to integrate Intel hyperbaric cooling, which uses an internal fan that draws air into the laptop to prevent overheating. With most existing models, the internal fans are used to push the hot air.

Dell Inspiron 1100 Laptop fan?

My laptop was shutting down suddenly (after 4 years of use without problems), and since it was also running hot, I suspected the fan/heat sink. I had never had the fan checked or cleaned, so I asked a local shop to blow some compressed air into the laptop and clean out the dust. The laptop hasn’t shut down since that was done …..but….. now the cooling fan doesn’t seem to come on at all (at least I can’t hear it), even after a couple of hours of use. In addition, I’m hearing a clicking sound, from inside the laptop, every time I surf the Web and click on a link, or click on a file inside a folder, etc. I’ve never heard that sound before.

These are two different issues:

First off – the fan/heat issue. Are you able to tell what temperature the laptop is running at? If it’s not shutting itself off and the fan isn’t turning on then it either doesn’t need to run yet or the fan is broken. If you know how to get into your system bios you can check to see what temperature your cpu/computer case needs to be before the fan kicks in. If you can determine if you’ve exceeded the min. temp then you can determine if the fan is bad.

The clicking sound. That’s normal for clicking links in Internet Explorer and opening folders. To disable the clicking sound I found this:

Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel > Sounds and Audio devices

Click the ‘sounds’ tab. In the window, scroll down to ‘Windows Explorer’ and in the sub menu, highlight ‘Start navigation’

Pull down the drop down box below, where it currently says ‘Start’ or ‘Windows Start’ and choose ‘(none)’ instead. Click ‘Apply’, then click OK, and close the Control Panel.

That should get rid of it.

Can a LCD Display from an IBM Thinkpad T21 Laptop Be Used To Replace A Non-working Display On a T23?

I have a stack of non-working T20 and T21′s. My T23 display has stopped working. Now using a CRT with the T23 to have a working display, but it is important for be portable.
Are T20 and T21 LCD displays interchangeable with the T23 display? If so, can anyone point me to information about how to remove and replace the LCD displays on the T20, T21, and T23?

Laptops get “laggy” if you don’t clean out the temp files once in a while, defrag regularly, overload the memory, or fill the harddrive to more than 90% of capacity.
Perhaps your friend’s opinion is just that; an opinion rather than a fact. Ask someone with more knowledge of Compaq Laptops.
They can be quite good if properly taken care of.
Any laptop will get “laggy” if it is abused.
