Laptop to TV through HDMI stopped working, why?

I have a Gateway NV52 that I hooked up to a Samsung plasma screen through HDMI tonight, audio and video worked perfectly, then, my laptop decided to overheat as usual and turn off. I have no more audio or video on my tv now. I have tried turning both off and back on, i tried unplugging and plugging into different HDMI ports, nothing still. It tells me there is no input signal on the tv. Any ideas what happened and how to fix please?
