Dell Inspiron 1420 AC Adapter power supply repairing guide

If you are experienced enough to do such repairs, following the suggestions below will assist you in repairing the power jack on a Dell laptop.
1. Remove the wire from both the laptop and the outlet.
2. Cut the wire at any point beyond the damaged area so that you can make a clean cut. It is best to leave at least a few millimeters between the damaged area and the cut to ensure that there is no damage to the wires you are going to reconnect.
3. Desolder the power jack from your motherboard that you have already taken out from the laptop. Both the motherboard and the Dell Inspiron 1420 AC Adapter jack have to be cleaned properly and then soldered again.
4. Carefully start to cut the outer plastic of both ends of the cut wire about a centimeter from the end. Do this gently as you do not want to cut the wires wrapped around the inner insulation. Remove the excess plastic.
5. Move the wrapped wires out of the way, and gently cut the inner insulating plastic only a few millimeters from the end. You will only need a tiny bit of exposed cord for this inner wire.
6. Hold the Dell ac adapter power jack and carefully remove from the motherboard. When the power jack is successfully removed, clean the oxidized contacts with a sharp metal object. Apply a coat of solder to the contacts. Clean the Dell Inspiron 1420 AC Adapter jack, and place the solders to all sides of the motherboard.
7. Secure the entire connection with a complete wrap of electrical tape, and test your connection.

Troubles with my Dell Inspiron 1545 AC adapter?

so, i just bought a new laptop not too long ago, maybe around Late June of this year and the AC adapter has been giving me an error message everytime i try to charge it gives me this little error message ” the AC power adapter type cannot be determined. Your system will operate slower and the battery will not charge. Please connect a Dell 65W AC adaper or higher for best system operation. ” i was wondering what it could be , or how i could solve it.

I would say take it to best buy & have them look at it.

My daughter has the same kind of laptop & she has had trouble with the cord twice now. She didnt buy it from Best Buy though. I had had so many problems with laptops from Best Buy in my area that I refuse to buy anymore there.

Maybe you can let me know if you get it fixed & what was wrong. The first time she had trouble we contacted Dell & they gave her a new cord & it worked great for awhile. My daughter this last time bought a adapter of ebay & it wont charge the battery but at least she can use the laptop with it plugged in.

Also you can try to remove the battery to see if that helps & than put the battery back. It worked for her one time.

Can i use a charger for a different laptop for mine if the specifications are the same? If so, what kind?

I have a Sony Vaio PCG-5J2L laptop. my charger unexpectedly died a while back. my charger says it’s output is 19.5V and 3.9A and the input is 100-240V and 50-60 Hz. the plug into the laptop is about 6mm. in the upper right hand corner, a sequence i would suppose to be the model number or something says VGP-AC19V19.
i have been using my brother’s because he has the same model. needless to say, that does not work any longer. i’m looking online to buy another but i’m having trouble. some appear to be around $50 and others around $15 or $20 on ebay. i really can’t use ebay and i’m not spending $50 for the charger. so i was wondering, can i can use a charger for another model of sony laptop as long as the specifications for voltage and such are the same? also, if i can, what other models have the same specifications and will fit the plug on my laptop?

My laptop charger is broke will Curry’s fix it?

Ok so my HP laptop charger wire has snapped at the end and when i try to plug it in the wires start sparking. I have had the laptop for almost 2 years in jan, i got it from currys. If i go in with my adapter receipt will they replace the cable or fix it? If not will they if i don’t have the receipt and say i have had it for less than 1 year?

The retailer only has to look at it for up to 1 year from the purchase date unless they offered an extended warranty. Anything else must be dealt with by the manufacturer.
