personally i would go with
2GB of ram and on-site warranty not mail in.
I have a vista ultimate system with better specs than that, i built it with 2GB of ram and have never needed more, it runs all day using 900MB of the 2048MB, i know everyone keeps saying you need 3 or 4GB of ram but very few people actually need that much (32bit OS’s cant even address 4GB). So you could save some money going for the less ram. maybe with the savings you could get the warranty upgrade or a 9 cell battery or something.
other than that it looks like a sweet laptop, have fun with it.
