I baught a 1gig stick of RAM for my LENOVO IBM laptop, I made sure this one was compatible. Not working? Why?!

I made sure it worked with my laptop. Is there any reason it wouldn’t work? It says that I have the same amount of RAM that I had before the install, (504mb) this really sucks!
Where do I check memory specs?

what type of memory did you have in your laptop before. you need to make sure that the type that you replace it with is compatible. on the old memory stick it should read something like 512mb DDR pc2700 533mhz, or something to that effect. If this is the case you need to buy 1 gig DDR pc2700 533 mhz memory stick.

Home Laptop Screen Problems And What You Can Do About Them

One of the most common laptop screen problems has to do with the LCD screen turning white. In most cases, this could be due to the following reasons:

  • The connection between the video cable and the LCD is loose.
  • The LCD screen is damaged.
  • The motherboard is damaged–this is more likely if the graphics card is built into the motherboard.

In these types of laptop screen problems, the laptop may start up seemingly as normal, but the screen itself remains white all throughout boot-up. The first thing you will want to do in this case is to test your laptop with an external monitor. Connect the external monitor to the VGA port on your laptop and hit the switch that changes the video output from internal to external.(ibm thinkpad t43 battery)

There are certain key combinations you will have to press in order to get the video to show up on your external monitor, with different laptop brands having different combinations. With some laptops, you may have to reboot the system in order for the video to appear on the external monitor.(ibm thinkpad  t60 laptop battery)

In a few instances, these types of laptop screen problems may be caused simply by a poor connection between the video cable and the screen. Unfortunately, reestablishing this connection isn’t quite so simple, since the connector is typically located behind the LCD screen. To get to it, you will have to take apart the display panel, for which the service manual should come in handy.(thinkpad r50 battery)

The first thing to check out after you have opened up the display panel is to check the video cable. You may get lucky and find that simply reconnecting will fix your laptop screen problems. If that doesn’t work, the problem may be a more serious one with the LCD screen or the motherboard, in which case you would probably be better off taking your laptop to a qualified technician. Don’t be disheartened however; such parts can be replaced–although they may be expensive–but they will almost certainly get rid of your laptop screen problems.

Should I Get Vista?

I have an IBM Thinkpad T60 Laptop that I bought through my University. The University will not switch to Vista, because they say that it currently does not work with a lot of their networks and programs that they need people to use. I may need to dual-boot Ubuntu or some form of Linux in the future. I can get Vista through my University, though, for a grand total of $12, and most likely Office 2007 for the same amount or possibly even free. My question is, should I get Vista, knowing that almost everyone that has used it hates it, or should I stick with XP until my University forces me to switch?

Paying $12 for a piece of sh*t is much better than paying $300 for a piece of sh*t, but you are still buying a piece of sh*t.

I honestly have not heard a good thing about Vista. It is bloated, buggy, and the DRM scheme is draconian. That alone should prevent anyone from buying it.

Download Ubuntu (I prefer KDE so I’d go with Kubuntu or OpenSuse) and get OpenOffice for your spreadsheets and documents. You can get it for Linux, Mac and Windows. And with Ubuntu, you can get a live CD to boot into so you can get a feel for it without installing it. (One note, some files, like mp3s, will not work because they require proprietary codecs to play).

And that $12? You’d be better off spending it on beer.

What about the Dell Laptop battery maintenance guide

Dell Laptop battery maintenance guide

Battery is the consumables, with a limited life expectancy, most manufacturers warranty for the notebook battery time ranging from three months to a year, Dell is to follow industry standards to provide a limited warranty for one year. For batteries, use the correct and proper storage, can significantly extend the Dell E1705 battery life of notebook computers.

First, the battery useing must follow some attention points.

1. When you use laptop with external power, you dont need to take out the battery.

  1. There is a chip to prevent over-charging in the mainboard. When the rechargeable battery power to 100% state of charge, the charge control chips (FET) will stop charging the battery. We do not have to worry about damage to the battery.
  2. Connect the 851UY 75UYF 1K500 battery to avoid loss of BIOS information.
  3. To prevent a sudden loss of power break.

2. To prevent exposure to prevent damp to prevent the erosion of liquid chemicals, batteries to avoid contact with metal objects, such as exposure to short-circuit occurrence.

3. Long-term do not use notebooks, how to store the laptop battery?

We will have a period of time not to use the notebook, the 851uy 75uyf 1k500 battery is fully charged to preserve, or to be released after save electricity?

Put long-term preservation of photoelectric batteries will lose their activity and even lead to the control circuit protection self-locking and can not re-use, full of power will bring about long-term preservation of the safety problems, the best method is to save electricity use to 40 or so and then stored in cool dry place, about 20 degrees Celsius is the ideal storage temperature. Of course, the best month to come up with to use a battery, the battery can ensure a good state of preservation, but also does not allow the loss of electricity damage to the battery completely.

How can I exam the Dell battery power? (For example in cell D610 battery)

Remove the battery, press the Macbook Pro battery power signs, we can see the situation of the five battery status lights. For two bright, representing 40% of the electricity. Electricity on behalf of the entire light is sufficient, if the 135-light, that damage the battery.

Second, how to extend as much as possible the work of laptop battery time?

  1. To reduce the screen brightness. How to adjust the brightness of the use of laptop batteries, boot by F2, into the BIOS to adjust the Brightness of Video. Or fn + down / up key combination to adjust the brightness quickly.
  2. Open the CPU speedstep feature, you can greatly extend the working hours of latitude x300 battery; Cpu’s speedstep feature is enabled by default BIOS of. When using batteries, cpu will automatically down-use, in order to achieve energy-saving purpose. If not enabled, please start by F2, into the BIOS found in Performance, for the Speedstep Enable setting Enabled. (An earlier version of BIOS is the Alt + P to the sixth page, modify intel speedstep)
  3. make the best use of standby, sleep and other functions. When a longer period of time without a computer, allowing notebook standby or hibernation, both to save power and extend the life of the computer. (Tips: Please confirm the successful installation of graphics drivers, power management options can be set up.)
    WINDOWS in the process of power management settings, we generally can be set to “portable / laptop” (Portable / Laptop).
    At the same time suggest that you will use the powerbook G4 battery when the wait time to close the monitor is set to 5 minutes, so when we do not operate within a certain period of time the notebook, it will direct the state of black screen, so other than the screen saver to run more power.
  4. when using the battery as much as possible the closure of wireless, Bluetooth and infrared ports. At the same time to remove without the use of peripherals and to avoid the opening of a large 3D program, games and so on, in order to reduce unnecessary battery consumption.

Of course, on the controversy over the use of batteries, there are  kinds of dell batteries if you are loking http://www.battery-company.com.au.

How will Windows 7 work on my PC?

I have a Dell Inspiron 6000 PC. I have a copy of Windows 7 Ultimate on my shelf. Would you recommend putting it on my PC? Will it be deathly slow? Will it burn out my computer? Here is some basic information regarding my PC:

* 1.6 GHz Intel Pentium M 730 (Sonoma), 533MHz FSB and PCIe x16 chipset
* 15.4 inch WSXGA+ LCD Panel (Samsung)
* 512 MB DDR2 400 MHz ram
* 60 GB Ultra ATA Fujitsu 4200rpm hard drive
* 64 MB ATi Mobility Radeon X300
* Microsoft Windows XP Home
* 24x CD-RW/DVD (Sony)
* Intel 2200 b/g internal wireless card
* 6-cell lithium ion battery
* Integrated 10/100 network Ethernet card
* Internal 56k modem

Thanks!

Bit slow for the 7 Im afraid. Might not even let you install.

Anyway, you can go to the windows 7 website and there is an option there, somethign along the lines of ‘can I run windows 7?’
While the specs they quote are rather higher than what is possible (I run 7 for fun on an old HP Pavilion laptop, just to see if it works, and it does!) I think it would definately not run on those specs.

Test HP G62-130EG Notebook

Budget-Laptop.

So preist HP seinen 15.6-Zoller G62-130EG an.

Intel Core Duo Thinkpad T60

The biggest feature of the Thinkpad T60 is the fact that it is one of Lenovo’s first Centrino Duo capable notebooks.? The sample we got was in fact a Centrino Duo system as it was equipped with an Intel 945GM chipset, 3945ABG wireless solution and an Intel Core Duo T2600 (2.16GHz) processor.? IBM does offer other versions of the T60 that use the Core Duo processor but don’t meet the requirements to be called a Centrino Duo as well.?

Basically the same as its predecessor T-series notebooks did. The T60 body is a rugged plastic that does not flex. The magnesium reinforced lid won’t flex and provides amazing protection for the screen. The keyboard does not flex — at all. The thick metal hinges that attach the screen are very rigid and ensure the screen does not wobble. The keyboard is spill proof and has two drain holes to make sure if you do happen to spill your morning Starbucks coffee, the liquid is carried away from sensitive components and out through the bottom of the notebook. The hard drive is shock mounted and the entire chassis is a newly designed magnesium “roll cage” (it offers 30% more protection that past T-series chassis), and even if your T60 is dropped and broken the Active Protection System (APS) will stop hard drive activity to prevent data loss. The double screen latch system locks securely to make sure the screen stays down when being carried around. In other words, there’s no shortcuts being used in build quality from past ThinkPad notebooks since the Lenovo takeover of IBM — only enhancements.

The inside meant that this computer had an Intel chip inside meaning better performance than those other people, way back in 1993, not that Intel focused on the insides of the computer. Watch it and this will actually be bad for them. All those people won’t even recognize the intel they knew with the new logo.

I admit it, I have no use for the Weener (Windows) keys. Its a pointless feature to have if you use other OSs or migrating AWAY from Windows. Its like Nvidia’s chipset firewall solution…Another pointless feature for “Windows Only” users. (Which causes more trouble than its really worth).

With Lenovo adopting all these “everyone else has it” features, its not the same ThinkPad anymore. They don’t stand out technologically, like they used to.

Granted, the fingerprint scanner and keyboard light is interesting, but that’s all there is. My oldR50 ThinkPad has a keyboard light as well. So I guess the only thing is the fingerprint scanner.

Like the ThinkPad Z61m, the ThinkPad T60 features a 15.4-inch wide-screen display with a 1,680×1,050 native resolution that affords a large amount of screen real estate (nearly 26 columns and 51 rows on the default Excel spreadsheet) but can make text appear small. Users who fall behind on their Vitamin A supplements can configure the T60 with a 1,280×800 resolution display. As with all ThinkPads, a reading light tucked into the bezel above the screen lets you illuminate the keyboard when working in dark environments. The T60 lacks the built-in Webcam found on the Z61m’s display bezel.

As for ThinkVantage, that is useful…To some extent.

I tried to “clean restore” WinXP from the hidden partition (as Windows requires a clean installation after 2 or more years of use), and I get a crapload of errors. The Trackpoint or Touchpad seem to be no longer detected, and so on. And other error messages. I couldn’t get past finishing the install. So I unhid that WinXP Partition, and formatted the sucker clean, gained 8GB back of HDD space. Which is enough for a quadriple boot…Win2k, Slackware, FreeBSD and Solaris. (And they all work fine with the Trackpoint/Touchpad).

In all Starting price is higher than comparable systems’; lacks a number of nonessential but fairly standard ports and connections. Sturdy, well-designed case; strong security features; full range of networking connections, including WWAN and Bluetooth; swappable internal bay; solid warranty terms and well-reputed support.

There are a number keypad you must enter the data.
Shiny!
Windows 7 instead of Vista.
More RAM and hard disk of my older computers together.
~ 4 hours of battery life.
3 USB ports

Disadvantages -
Clear but the screen can affect too often so it is difficult to see in some corners.
The keyboard has a tendency to double letters or letters sometimes in autumn. I have never this problem on my old laptop (Dell Inspiron 6000) and I just checked to make sure you have the latest drivers.
Mouse pad can be cold sometimes it irritates me no end. Nor is it a problem that I had an old laptop.
Recognition program to me that my glasses off before use. That sounds silly for someone who is blind as a bat and you need glasses? (Just a little mind because I’m really interested in safety. My friend has a laptop with a fingerprint reader which is much more fun but very stupid if you wear gloves when handling a computer.)

A solid laptop with a small price tag

Over the course of my college years, I have access to a few laptops, including this lenovo G550. It has very solid construction quality and runs very fast for normal use (e.g. office and web). It’s quiet, looks cool, and has a nice screen. I would recommend this to any one who wants a solid laptop without paying an arm and a leg.

Rock solid

I’m a low end user. Checking email, some wordprocessing, watching DVD’s, downloading music and films… you get the idea.
First, this is an ugly machine, but I’ve come to love it. When I first pulled it out of the box it looked so cheap I was checking my invoice to see if it could be returned. Over the near three months I’ve had it, it has really grown on me.
A reviewer stated that it’s flimsy plastic. Hey buddy, I got news for you they’re ALL plastic in this range, and this isn’t flimsy at all. It does NOT flex when you pick it up like those faux, slick looking metallic ones that are magnets for fingerprints. And the raised texture surface pattern means no fingerprints. I’ve come to appreciate the ingenuity of this baby. It’s like the people at Lenovo decided to do away with any pretenses of being attractive and focused on building a rock solid laptop, at a great price (I got mine at newegg for $400).
Being it’s this basic, hardworking machine there are no frills. No DVI, no lighted keyboard, no fingerprint ID, no operational shortcut buttons for DVD/music playing. It’s black, it has an on button (cheap looking), lights to tell you it’s running and if you have the CAPS LOCK on. Surprisingly it has a webcam???
So if you’re looking for a reasonably priced laptop for school or travel, you can’t go wrong with this. It’s fast and I work with multiple windows from multiple programs open and there’s never a problem.

A Good Product

While I sympathize with everybody who was compelled to cleanly install Windows 7 any consumer should pay the price for the PC with Windows 7. It may cost more but Windows 7 is worth it. I received an offer that I couldn’t refuse for the G550 with an XP system. In addition I received a trial version of 7. I was impressed and bought it too and my troubles began. First Microsoft makes many versions of 7. With the trial version they provided me with Ultimate. I bought the Pro version of Windows 7. When the versions are different you must custom install it. I missed this ‘little’ detail and used the automatic installation. You can’t upgrade the superior version with the updraft. It must be first erased through the installation then Windows 7 is installed. There is also a problem with files. They will also be erased during installation. So you must remove them onto the disc or flash drive then recover them after 7 is installed. Microsoft also provided two discs. One contained the 32-bit application and another a 62-bit application. The 62-bit product was designed for heavy data processing. You need at least 3GB of memory and more than 400 GB of storage. Use the 32-bit application. It’s more standard. By the way the Lenovo ran just fine during the struggle with Microsoft. Now don’t buy the Windows 7 Pro then buy a cheaper Lenovo. Stick with the G550. Once you decline the manufacturer tries cost-cutting measures like combining keyboards along with a smaller screen or whatever will save money. At that point your buy loses its value. It’s not the greatest PC on the market but it will do quite well and buying it with Windows 7 installed only increases the cost but also the value of your purchase.

How do I fix this: Computer is connected to wireless but none of the browsers are working?

So here’s what’s happened:
I just removed (like an hour ago) the Funny UST Scandal virus from my laptop, by following the instructions at :

http://firewalker.kamusilmiah.com/i-killed-the-funny-ust-scandal-virus/

So now my computer works fine, except that my internet is screwed up. Intel PROSet Wireless is connecting to the wifi, but when I load any of the browsers (IE, FF, and Chrome) they all can’t detect the server (to www.google.com -homepage)

Computer: Lenovo G530, New, Windows XP Professional v2002 SP3

It’s not my proxy settings and I don’t think it’s the TCP/IP. The virus had the habit of shutting down any browser that was on a site that told me how to kill it.
